Warm And Fuzzy: Kiwi Tips and Tricks

Bring the spirit of “the land down under” to your menu with everyone’s favorite fuzzy green fruit. Use the tips and tricks to prepare kiwis in a way that would make any New Zealander proud.

  • To determine the ripeness of your kiwi, simply apply light pressure with your thumb. If your fruit is ripe, there should be a slight give. A firm kiwi is always an underripe kiwi.
    • If your kiwis aren’t ready, store them at room temperature and away from direct sunlight. In these conditions, they should be ready in a few days.
  • There are a few different ways to prepare kiwi. Peeling the skin may be the most traditional technique, but it often results in a major loss of fruit. We prefer the “spoon” method. First, trim a half inch off each side, and then place a spoon in between the fruit and skin. Gently move the spoon around the entire kiwi and scoop out the fruit once you’ve made it all the way around. Trust us, you’ll never want to go back.
  • Though kiwis naturally compliment tropical fruits, they play surprisingly well with mint! Mix a kiwi puree into your next mojito for a tangy twist on a crowd favorite.
