Take A Grill Pill: 5 Ways to Use Grilled Fruit

Grilled fruit is a secret summer delight. Once you place your favorite seasonal fruit above the fire, you're kickstarting a process that adds new and unique flavors to the fruit without fully changing its identity. From there, you’re left with a versatile finished product that can be used in all sorts of ways. Follow suit by testing out any of these options in your kitchen!

Turn It Into A Dessert

Due to the naturally sweet flavor profile of summer fruits like melons, stone fruit, and pineapple, there are a plethora of different grilled fruit desserts for you to choose from. We’ve seen chefs add grilled fruits to other desserts as well as serve them on their own, so feel free to experiment to find what’s right for you. To start, we’d recommend adding grilled pineapple pieces to vanilla ice cream or coaxing grilled peaches in a cinnamon-sugar butter.

Add Grilled Pineapples To A Burger

Plopping pineapple onto a Hawaiian burger is a classic way to incorporate grilled fruit into a greater dish. The real creativity of this dish comes through pairing additional ingredients; we’ve found great success with teriyaki-bbq sauce, bacon, bell peppers, and caramelized maui onions!

Make A Fruit Kebab

If you’re looking to work with a variety of grilled fruits, fruit kebabs are a fantastic option. There are a lot of summer fruits that share complimentary flavor profiles so you can combine different fruits with little worry. In general, we’ve found that fruits with a larger surface area tend to fare better on the grill, so we’d recommend sticking to bigger options like cantaloupe, peaches, pineapples, and apples!

Spruce Up A Summer Salad

Summertime is the season of salads. Not only is there a smorgasbord of fresh produce to work with, but you also have the added benefit of customers seeking out light, nutritious dishes to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle. This makes summer a fantastic time to bust out new salads. For an elegant plate, try combining grilled peaches with peppery arugula, prosciutto, and a creamy, tart cheese like mascarpone or goat cheese!

Pile Onto A Pizza

There are two avenues you can pursue when adding grilled fruit to a pizza; first off, you can go all out and use a ton of different fruits to create a “dessert pizza” or you can lean into the savory side of things by strategically adding grilled fruit to a more traditional pizza. While we’re definitely fond of dessert pizzas, we prefer adding grilled fruit to traditional pizzas to promote innovation while offering a surprising dish. There are a lot of different ways to incorporate grilled fruit in pizzas, but we’d found that grilled sweet apples and caramelized onions are a particularly potent pair; try adding both to your standard bbq chicken pizza recipe and watch the orders fly out of the kitchen!
